On Thursday night, September 26, 2025, a tragic two-vehicle crash in the South Miami Heights area of southwestern Miami-Dade left a man and a child dead. The accident happened on Quail Roost Drive (State Road 994) when a black Lexus sedan collided with a gray GMC SUV. The driver of the Lexus died at the scene, while a child passenger was airlifted to Kendall Hospital, where they later died. Four people were inside the GMC, but none sustained injuries, though the SUV was left with rear-end damage and the Lexus spun to face the opposite direction. The Florida Highway Patrol, with support from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the County Medical Examiner’s Office, is investigating the crash. Quail Roost Drive was shut down for several hours and reopened around 11 p.m. Initial reports suggested three fatalities, but officials later clarified that only two people were killed.
