A fatal three-vehicle accident, involving an SUV, a van, and a concrete pump truck, occurred at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 on U.S. 301 at County Road 218 in Clay County, Florida. Two girls were killed, and nine people, including four children, were injured in the accident.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), all the three vehicles involved were moving northbound on U.S. 301 in the right lane just before the accident. As the van and SUV picked up speed from the traffic signal at the intersection of County Road 218, the truck hit the rear of the van, causing the van to collide with the back of the SUV.
The troopers said that two van occupants, a 10-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl, died in the crash. A 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, also in the van, sustained critical injuries. A 43-year-old man, who was driving the van, and a 15-year-old male van occupant, suffered serious injuries. All six of the van occupants were from Ontario, Canada.
The SUV driver, a 72-year-old man from Gainesville, and his four passengers – a 42-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl, all from Fort Collins, Colorado –sustained minor injuries.
The truck driver, a 48-year-old man from Gainesville, did not suffer any injuries. It is also unknown whether or not he was wearing a seat belt.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
