A wrong-way, double-vehicle crash, involving a silver Infiniti sedan and a gray Honda sedan, occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Five people died in the accident and one driver sustained severe injuries.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 30-year-old male was driving an Infiniti sedan that was moving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway near Miami when he hit a Honda sedan head-on.
All five occupants of the Honda vehicle, including a man and four women, between the ages of 18 to 25, died at the crash scene. The wrong-way driver of the Infiniti automobile sustained severe injuries and he was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center. According to a news report, the Infiniti driver has not been in possession of a valid driver’s license since 2014.
The westbound lanes of State Road 826 were shut down for several hours after the crash.
