A two-vehicle crash, involving a car and an SUV, occurred at 10:15 a.m. on Moon Lake Road in New Port Richey, Florida on Sunday, July 4, 2021. A 78-year-old man from New Port Richey, who was driving the car, died and a 32-year-old woman from New Port Richey, who was driving the SUV, sustained minor injuries in the car crash.
According to troopers, the crash was caused by a woman who skipped a red light. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that at the time of the incident, the woman was driving her SUV in the north direction on Moon Lake Road, south of Terra Ceia Avenue, and failed to stop for a red traffic signal, exactly when the old man was turning left from westbound Terra Ceia Avenue.
The SUV hit the left side of the car, resulting in severe injuries to the old man. He was then transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The 32-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.
