A fatal, two-vehicle crash, involving a Nissan Altima and a truck, occurred Tuesday morning on January 11, 2022, in rural Highlands County, Florida. A man was killed and a teenager was seriously injured in the accident.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), at the time of the crash, the Nisan vehicle driver, a 44-year-old man from Bradenton, was traveling eastbound on State Road 70, west of Lightsey Ranch Road near Lake Placid, and the truck, which was towing a trailer, was moving toward the west.
Investigators said that as the truck approached, the Nissan moved into the westbound lane. The truck driver veered left to prevent a collision, but the left side of the Nissan car collided with the left side of the truck to ultimately hit the trailer.
Troopers said that the Nissan driver succumbed to his injuries at the accident scene and the only Nissan passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was transported to a hospital in serious condition. The Traffic Homicide Unit of FHP is investigating the accident.
