A double-vehicle crash, involving a van and a pickup truck, occurred early Sunday, March 12, 2023, on State Road 40 in Volusia County. A 26-year-old Sanford man died in the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 3:42 a.m. on SR-40 near Palmetto Pines Drive. A Sanford man was driving a van in the westbound direction when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. Consequently, the van entered the eastbound lane where it collided with a pickup truck that was approaching from the opposite direction. The collision was so forceful that the pickup truck overturned onto its passenger side and struck a traffic sign.
The Sanford man driving the van passed away at the scene of the accident. The occupants of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old driver from Ormond Beach and a 45-year-old passenger from Orange City, suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.
The crash report revealed that the deceased driver was the only person involved in the accident who was not wearing a seatbelt.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
