In rural southeast Marion on Wednesday morning, a tragic single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman and left her 25-year-old grandson injured. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the incident, which occurred along Southeast 182nd Avenue Road.
The crash involved an older model Chevy Blazer driven by the grandson. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle first veered off the roadway, then returned briefly, before swerving off again into the grassy shoulder. The Blazer crashed through a wooden fence and collided with a pine tree in a wooded area.
Emergency services, including Marion County Fire Rescue, responded to the scene. The woman was pronounced deceased at 10:39 a.m., while the grandson was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in serious condition. Both individuals were from Ocklawaha, and the relationship between them was confirmed to be grandmother and grandson.
The roadway was blocked in both directions to allow for thorough investigation by traffic homicide investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
