On October 15, 2024, a tragic six-vehicle accident occurred on I-95 near the Pineda Causeway in Melbourne, Florida. A 65-year-old man from Palm Bay lost control of his northbound vehicle, overcorrected, and hit a guardrail. The impact redirected his vehicle into the path of another car, driven by a 25-year-old man who sustained serious injuries. The 65-year-old was ejected from his vehicle and ended up in the southbound lanes, leading multiple other vehicles to swerve to avoid him. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.
Two others suffered serious injuries, and two more sustained minor injuries. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances that led to the overcorrection and subsequent crash. The incident caused significant traffic disruption, with sections of I-95 temporarily closed during the investigation.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety along Florida’s highways, especially in high-traffic areas like I-95 near Melbourne. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes until the area was cleared.
