On Friday, after colliding with an SUV during a passing maneuver at about 7:25 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said, a 54-year-old Clermont man driving a trike-style motorcycle northbound on State Road 33 near the intersection of Evans Ave. was killed in a collision.
The guy, whose name was not released, passed several vehicles and tried to pass a semi-truck, according to a crash report from the FHP. As he tried to move the semi-truck, he and a 55-year-old man from Lakeland smashed into each other.
The Clermont man did not wear a helmet, and soon after the collision, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver from Lakeland was airlifted in critical condition to Orlando Health.
Motorcycle accidents are always markedly more dangerous than auto accidents, even ones where a trike-style motorcycle is involved.
