A hit-and-run crash, involving a semi-truck, a 2010 Scion SUV, and a 2019 Mercedes-Benz, occurred at around 1:18 a.m. on the southbound side of the Lake Jesup Bridge, Florida State Road 417, in Seminole County, Florida on Sunday, Apr 3, 2022. A 60-year-old man from Orlando died in the accident.
The initial investigation revealed that at the time of the accident, the semi-truck hit the rear of the Scion vehicle in the outside lane. This caused the Scion vehicle to collide with the concrete wall. It then rotated and hit the wall again. The collision caused the left rear passenger in the Scion to eject from the automobile through the rear window, and into the lake.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the deceased passenger was a 60-year-old man from Orlando, and he was not wearing a seat belt. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office recovered his body from the lake.
When the Scion automobile hit the wall the second time, the Mercedes-Benz collided with the Scion. The Scion’s driver sustained severe injuries and a second passenger in the Scion suffered minor injuries. The Mercedes-Benz driver also suffered minor injuries.
The semi-truck driver fled the scene and FHP is now seeking information about the truck and investigating the accident.
