A fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Florida Turnpike on Saturday night, March 18, 2023, claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl. The crash occurred near Country Line Road around 8 p.m. and involved a white Dodge SUV, a white GMC SUV and a gray Mercedes SUV.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver of the white Dodge SUV made an improper lane change towards the right, causing the vehicle to collide with the white GMC SUV. The impact caused the Dodge to catch fire before it crashed into the gray Mercedes SUV.
There were seven people, including the young girl, inside the Dodge at the time of the accident. The child was rushed to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The other occupants of the Dodge were also hospitalized.
The turnpike was closed for five hours while authorities investigated the incident, leading to traffic congestion for motorists.
