A three-vehicle crash, involving a Mitsubishi box truck, a Dodge Ram Pickup truck, and a Motor Coach transit bus, occurred at around 6:15 a.m. on State Route 60 in Osceola County, Florida. A man died and 16 other people suffered injuries in the accident.

According to a witness, the Dodge Ram was moving westbound on the state road when the driver of the pickup truck tried to pass another car which was moving in the westbound lane. The pickup truck driver attempted to pass the car and that’s when it came into the direct path of the box truck. The drivers of both pickup trucks and box trucks veered in an endeavour to prevent hitting each other but eventually collided. The box truck was also hit from behind by the transit bus.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers, a 52-year-old male from Port St. Lucie, who was a passenger of the pickup truck, was declared dead at the crash scene. The driver of the other two vehicles involved was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital by an air ambulance with critical injuries, but they both were in stable condition.

FHP said that passengers of the transit bus were 23 inmates from the Polk County Correctional Facility, who were travelling from Polk City to Okeechobee as part of their work-release program. Fourteen of them were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash was under investigation. State Road 60 was reopened after being closed for around 12 hours due to the crash.

If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the truck driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
