An 18-year-old woman from New Port Richey lost her life Monday night after a vehicle carrying five teenagers crashed into a retention pond in Hernando County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at 10:06 p.m. at the intersection of Tundra Drive and Brookridge Central Boulevard, as stated in a news release from the troopers.
The report indicates that a 17-year-old male was driving an Infiniti Q50 eastbound on Tundra Drive when he “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.” The vehicle then “entered the shoulder, rotated, overturned, and came to rest upright in a retention pond,” the release detailed.
The deceased woman was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a hospital, troopers reported.
The car’s occupants included the driver, the deceased, an 18-year-old male, a 19-year-old male, and a 19-year-old female. All of them, including the driver, sustained minor injuries, according to the troopers.
All individuals involved in the accident are residents of New Port Richey. The agency has not yet released their names.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
