A fatal single-vehicle crash, involving an SUV, occurred in Babcock Ranch on Wednesday, April 6, 2023 at around 6:10 a.m. A 16-year-old boy died in the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the SUV was being driven by another 16-year-old boy and was traveling east on Saw Palmetto Parkway, west of Seedling Terrace, when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The SUV overturned after colliding with palm trees.

The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center. Sadly, the passenger, identified as Dane Zigard from Punta Gorda, received serious injuries and was also transported to the hospital. However, he could not be saved.

It has been reported that both teens were students at the Babcock Neighborhood School. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
