On December 10, 2024, a tragic accident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Bridges Road and County Road 33 in Groveland, Florida. The collision involved two vehicles: a 2018 Ford Explorer and a 1997 Ford dump truck, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.
The incident began when the Ford Explorer, driven by a 47-year-old man from Grand Island, Florida, was stopped and facing east on Bridges Road. As the Explorer moved forward, it entered the path of a northbound 1997 Ford dump truck, which was being driven by a 63-year-old man from Mount Vernon, Maine. The front of the dump truck collided with the right side of the Explorer, causing both vehicles to be forced off the roadway and into a nearby tree line.
The impact of the crash was fatal for all three occupants of the Ford Explorer. The driver of the Explorer, along with his two passengers — a 35-year-old woman from Longwood, Florida, and a 32-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida — were all pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the dump truck sustained only minor injuries.
Emergency response teams from Lake County Fire Rescue, Lake EMS, the Groveland Fire Department, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to provide support. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is leading the investigation to determine if any additional factors, such as traffic violations or driver impairment, contributed to the incident.
This accident highlights the severe consequences of high-impact collisions involving heavy vehicles like dump trucks. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and more details may emerge as the case progresses
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
