A fatal accident, involving a semi-truck and two cars, occurred Thursday morning, July 22, 2021, on Florida’s Turnpike in Boynton Beach. Two people died in the accident and one sustained minor injuries in the crash.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 66-year-old man was driving the semi-truck toward the south on Florida’s turnpike, near the 84-mile post. The two cars were moving slowly in the stop-and-go traffic. At the time of the incident, the semi-truck driver failed to slow down fast, eventually colliding with the cars.
After hitting the car, the truck driver drove over the bridge and then into the canal, where the semi-truck collided with an unoccupied boat. The tractor-trailer started to sink into the canal since the tanker dangled from the edge of the bridge. The cars veered off the highway and collided with the guardrail. One of the two cars got crushed due to the impact of the semi-truck, and ultimately caught fire.
The crashed car’s driver, a 42-year-old woman from Loxahatchee, died at the accident scene. The semi-truck driver succumbed to his injuries later at Delray Medical Center. The other car’s driver, a 37-year-old woman from Royal Palm, suffered minor injuries.
All southbound lanes remained closed between the Boynton Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue exits for several hours in the morning.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
