Two fatalities resulted from a multi-car collision on U.S. 19, leading to the closure of northbound lanes in Pinellas County for an extended period on Saturday night on February 3, 2024.
As outlined in an official statement from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident transpired around 10:30 p.m., just south of Republic Drive on U.S. 19.
The collision unfolded when a northbound Chevy Trax, situated in the inside center lane, failed to come to a stop behind four stationary vehicles in traffic, according to the release. The 50-year-old male driver of the Chevy Trax, hailing from Largo, collided with the rear of a Hyundai Santa Fe, causing it to propel forward into three additional vehicles—a Jeep Cherokee, Kia Stinger, and Mercedes GLE.
Tragically, both the driver of the Chevy Trax and a 54-year-old female passenger from Clearwater, who was in the Hyundai Santa Fe, succumbed to their injuries after being transported to local hospitals. The identities of these individuals were not disclosed by the Highway Patrol.
The 62-year-old male driver of the Santa Fe, also from Clearwater, sustained minor injuries, while no other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
