A woman died and a man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 just before midnight Saturday, August 14, 2021, on I-75, Sumter County, Florida.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that a 23-year-old woman from Spring Hill was driving toward the south on I-75, when she fell asleep and lost control of her automobile, eventually colliding with a guardrail and ending up in the outside lane facing north. The vehicle became inoperable and without lights on the highway, just north of County Road 514.
According to the FHP, the female driver and a 22-year-old male passenger from Spring Hill got out of their vehicle and stood near the car when it stopped in the outside lane. The troopers said that a 45-year-old man, driving a tractor-trailer, was also heading in the south direction on the highway. He did not observe any hazard lights from the inoperable automobile and ultimately collided with the car and the two people standing close by.
The woman died at the accident scene and the man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries
If any nearby person or vehicle were injured/damaged as a result of the driver’s negligence, there would likely be a valid personal injury claim.
