A single-vehicle crash involving a red 2011 Hyundai Sonata car occurred Monday evening on November 1, 2021, along the US-17 South near Transport Road in Polk County, Florida. A woman was killed in the accident.

According to investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Sonata car, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Lakeland, went off the road and hit a tree at the time of the incident. She was the only person in the vehicle. The woman succumbed to her injuries before the arrival of first responders. At the time of the accident, the woman was not wearing a seat belt.

The southbound lanes of US-17 South were closed for around three hours while emergency crews investigated the accident.
